I have enjoyed using computers for about 25 years now. I find it very exciting that I can contact friends, find recipes, do my banking, play games and many more things by just sitting in front of my computer. If you have a computer and are unsure of how to use it I can help you. I have a lot of experience working with older and disabled learners and have a very cheerful, patient and positive outlook.

About Me

I live in the centre of Aberdeen with my husband. We have three children and one grandchild who keep me busy during my spare time. When I’m not with my family my favourite pastime is taking my extremely large poodle out for walks to our local park.

My interest in computers started when my children were at school. We bought them a computer one Christmas and I’ve been hooked ever since. A few years later, in the early nineties, while working for my local Health Board I was given access to the internet to carry out research. Discovering the wealth of information on the World Wide Web inspired me further. My interest has grown and my skills have developed ever since. I also worked for a short spell in an Internet Cafe which introduced me to helping customers on a one to one basis.

Since then I have tutored on a self-employed basis, and for Aberdeen College as an outreach tutor. For the past eight years I have worked in a centre for adults with neurological conditions. I have loved the challenge of using assistive technology to help those with disabilities access their computer.

I really enjoy teaching beginners and would love to hear from you. I’m quite flexible and will help you learn the important things for you, at a time which suits your needs.

Whether you are a complete beginner – or perhaps you want to develop your IT skills further – I can help you get the most from IT. I want you to enjoy using your computer and to get the best from it. My experience in both training and IT is extensive and I teach a wide range of computer skills. I focus entirely on individual learning requirements and always aim to make PCs a pleasure not a trial.

About me:

I have been an advanced computer user for many years (I started in Amstrad days in the 1980s!) and I use computers extensively both at work and home. My IT experience is wide-ranging and includes teaching large and small groups as well as individuals on a one-to-one basis. In more recent years I have been tutoring people in the local community how to use computers and helped them quickly gain confidence and get the most out of their laptop or PC. I have limitless patience and particularly enjoy coaching those new to computers.

I am an IT tutor with over ten years experience working with people of all abilities and at various stages of their learning, from beginners at home to experienced employees in small businesses. I have particular interest in developing databases and also run courses on digital photography.

I am an Accredited Digital Champion and a tutor-assessor for the Digital Unite Academy.

What I teach:

Users the self-confidence to develop the skills they want.
All Microsoft Office applications to ECDL Core level – SVQ level 3 – which include word-processing (Word) , spreadsheets (Excel), presentations (PowerPoint), databases (Access), Internet and e-mail (various programs). I also have experience of teaching OpenOffice.org packages.
The more advanced features offered in any Microsoft Office or OpenOffice.org application to suit the needs of small businesses and voluntary organisations.
Maintaining and developing databases in small businesses and voluntary organisations.
Various photo-editing programs such as Photoshop Elements, Picasa, Windows Photo Gallery.
Screen reading and speech recognition software and other assistive technologies.

About me:

I enjoy teaching on a one-to-one basis because I can give one-hundred-percent attention to the learner/client and the topic in hand. I also have experience of teaching small groups in various locations such as at work and in libraries.

I have worked for many years with people with disabilities teaching them use their computers with assistive technologies such as screen reading and speech recognition software, or developing their skills using keyboard shortcuts and the accessibility features in Windows.

I am a Branded Learning Centre with LearnDirect Scotland
under the name Digital Unite Edinburgh.

I am also a Registered Learning Provider with ILA Scotland.
